Bond Restaurant and Lounge Now Open

Bond restaurant and lounge has finally opened up at the Langham Hotel (Pearl and Franklin St). Featuring a menu with items under 20 dollars and a DJ on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights after 10 pm, the Langham Hotel is clearly trying to get rid of its stuffy (and expensive) image - once we get a chance to go for after-work dinner and drinks, we'll let you know if they've succeeded.

As a side note, the Langham building used to be the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston and is beautiful from the outside and absolutely incredible from the inside.

Cold Stone Creamery closed

The Cold Stone Creamery in the Charles River Plaza closed last week. Signs on the door are directing customers to their location in the Landmark Center near Kenmore Square (Brookline St). That location, however, was not the nearest other store. Does this mean that their locations in Charlestown, Park Plaza, and Huntington St are also closed?

Boston Pumpkin Festival

Walking by Government Center this evening, it was hard to miss the tower of lit jack-o-lanterns, the bins of pumpkins, the tents being erected, and the pumpkin themed orange port-a-potties.

All of this though is to get you in the Halloween spirit, while helping out a good cause, Camp Sunshine.

Saturday, October 18th is the Boston Pumpkin Festival at Boston City Hall Plaza from 12pm - 8pm.

In 2006, Boston set the Guinness World Record of 30,128 carved and lit jack-o-lanterns. Unfortunately the record could not be surpassed last year, with a still impressive 21,000 pumpkins being carved and lit. Perhaps with your help a new record can be set this year.

Voting Registration Deadline

Please note that tomorrow, October 15th, is the last day to register to vote in MA for the November 4 elections.

Forms must be postmarked (mail-in) or dropped off at your local City Hall by tomorrow.

Free Cold Stone Creamery

Election on Sept 16

Tomorrow, September 16th, is Primary Day in Massachusetts.

To find out more information about who is on your ballot and where to vote, visit the MA Election Divisions webpage.

Massachusetts is not a state that allows you to register to vote on election day itself, so the deadline for registering for the primary was August 27th. If you are not registered, you are unfortunately out of luck. If you have moved since you last registered, you should still be able to vote at your old voting location.

And this also serves as an important reminder for those who are not registered to vote or have not updated their address with their local City Hall, that to vote in the general election in MA on November 4th, you must register by October 15th. The stakes are clearly high in this election - especially for President of the United States. And though you may feel your vote is not meaningful in the state of MA due to the Electoral College system that Presidential elections use, there is still tremendous value in voting. First, the President-elect might claim to have a 'mandate' if they win the popular vote (a la George W. Bush in 2004) even if that win is by the slimmest of margins. Casting your vote will help to support or diminish his/her ability to claim this. Second, there are always statewide and local races and ballot initiatives that impact issues like education, public transportation, Congressional (re)districting, and taxes. And lastly, having a large, well-informed electorate helps ensure that candidates will have to reach out to a broader audience rather than just focusing on the turnout of their 'base', which I think is a good thing.

Roadhouse Craft Beer & BBQ Update

We stopped by Roadhouse Craft Beer & BBQ last night expecting long lines to accompany the delicious beer and BBQ, except there was one problem: they are not open yet.

Signs indicate that they will be opening on September 8th. The tipoff for the delayed opening perhaps were these Craigslist ads interviewing for line cooks and dishwashers this past Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (today).
